Take a break from strolling along the Wilmington Riverwalk and enjoy an impeccable meal with a waterfront view at The George. Featuring vast vistas of the adjacent Cape Fear River, and located in the heart of the downtown area, this brunch, lunch and dinner spot features a world of local and global fare that can appeal to veritably any palette.
All three menus, (brunch, lunch and dinner), are vast and feature a little something different as well as a nice selection of seafood, steak, and pasta favorites. Brunch patrons can sip on mimosas and enjoy decadent plates of Belgian waffles, steak and eggs, or eggs Florentine, while lunchtime visitors will have a nice selection of classic and unique sandwiches and midday entrees like penne a la vodka, and pub-style fish and chips. The dinner menu is just as unique, and includes traditional fare including steaks and fried or grilled seafood platters, as well as more eclectic entrées such as Blackened Alaskan Halibut and Seafood Diablo with a spicy marinara sauce. Regardless of what a diner decides on, the biggest attraction is arguably the view, which can be enjoyed via indoor or seasonal outdoor seating.
An enticing and convenient spot for downtown explorers, The George is a crowd-pleasing destination for water lovers to dive into the Cape Fear cuisine scene.
The original menu blended elements of Caribbean, Latin and classic European cuisines with traditional Southern fare with dishes like “The George” Smokehouse Platter with country ham and pimento cheese or “Rum Drunk Duck” over mashed sweet potatoes, with collards and coconut milk stewed tomatoes.
Throughout the years, The George found its niche in the style of “Southern Coastal Cuisine” and created the dishes we now know and love, like “George’s” Shrimp and Grits, Bacon Encrusted Scallops and Bangkok Tuna.
Décor changed significantly as well, evolving from bright pastels of coral and sea-foam green to sleeker shades of black, gray and silver.
Bar Selections
Although not the typical bar scene, The George features an impressive selection of North Carolina craft beers and extensive wine and martini lists that have changed with the times as well.
After all, George, himself, loves a good martini!
