A lot of newcomers are a little wary when they first arrive at Silver Hill Grill. Located in Supply, NC – which is just inland from Holden Beach – and found within a simple, one-story building that’s bordered by local homes, this restaurant doesn’t look like an acclaimed eatery for seafood lovers. But patrons who take the plunge will be wonderfully surprised with a variety of fresh seafood fare, friendly southern hospitality, and wonderfully budget-friendly prices. In business for more than 40 years, and family owned and operated, the Silver Hill Grill is the definition of a “Hidden Gem” in the Cape Fear region.
The menu is basic, but has lots of options, which range from BBQ sandwiches and burgers, to hot dogs, appetizers, and seafood platters. Newcomers will definitely want to start with the seafood options, which take up roughly half the menu, are served with fries, slaw, and hush puppies, and which come in both small and large portions. Featuring varying platters of shrimp, scallops, crabs, oysters, and fish, seafood fans will be in heaven with the array of combinations that are available. The bare-bones but friendly environment lets the seafood shine, and gives food lovers a fine introduction to southern comfort food on the Carolina coast.

Visitors will find an easy-to-get-to beach paradise at Oak Island, an expansive but peaceful retreat that's located an easy drive away from Wilmington, Southport, and other inland North Carolina communities. Both the main town and the island itself share the name of "Oak Island," and while the town extends slightly inland, encompassing the Cape Fear Regional Jetport, the rest of the community is cut off from the world by the long Elizabeth River, and a network of salty creeks and canals. This watery gap may not be particularly wide, but visitors will feel the change as soon as they cross over the bridge. Once ashore, Oak Island is a picturesque landscape of charming vacation rental homes, cool seafood restaurants and shops, and miles of ocean shoreline.
One of the great aspects about a cultured and unique destination like Southport is that the occasional rainy day never puts a damper on the fun. The town is brimming with unique attractions, shops, and activities that are perfect to enjoy on a rainy afternoon, and which are just as enticing as the beautiful outdoor landscapes and sunny waterfront regions. So if a little inclement weather is on your upcoming vacation forecast, use it as an opportunity to discover these activities which are effortlessly easy to enjoy, rain or shine.
