Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. 10 Conch Too: Colorful Oceanfront Home with Private Decks Off Upstairs Bedrooms has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

Have a great stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Document any damages to the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
