Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in Sunset Beach. To book the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitors guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose and book your prefect Southport rental home:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Beautifully constructed home with great canal and waterway views! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what is best for your vacation.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
