Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a spending plan:

  • Summer time is high season in the Southport area. Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Penny's Place: Beautifully decorated 2 bedroom condo within walking distance to has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's an individual Southport destination you are enamored with, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your contract.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
