Rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Southport area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Southport area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.
Choosing and booking the right Southport vacation home:
- Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Bonnie Dune - 2 BR\/2.5 BA Oceanfront home on South Beach! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
