Our top Vacation rental tips:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental home.
- Summer is high season in Sunset Beach. Book your Southport vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Continental Motel - studio with kitchenette close to beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a specific Southport attraction you long to visit, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
