Tricks and tips to get the perfect Oak Island vacation rental experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Oak Island. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Southport vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
  • Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitors guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by choosing trip dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Feelin' Tip Sea: Lovely Coastal Home with Fire Pit on Oak Island, NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Tips for a smooth stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Record any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
