Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • Book your Southport vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your group commit to a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Immaculate and well maintained home on SSB! NEW for 2024 upgraded kitchen! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or could be applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
