Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Wilmington. To find the largest rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Southport attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Southport visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Choose a group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Lullaby By The Lake has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
