Tips to get the best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Summer months are high season in Carolina Beach. To book the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Southport attractions. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Southport area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your group commit to dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. A Whelk on the Beach-Lower by RedAwning has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for a wonderful stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
