Things To Do:
Oak Island is known for its golden sand beaches, calming blue waters, friendly community, and close proximity to the cities of Southport, Wilmington, and Myrtle Beach. There are many cute island coffee stores, stores, breweries, and a park that showcases a splash-pad for summer fun! With a handsome Golf Club open to summer travelers and over 100 public water access points, there is an abundance of all things adventurous to do on Oak Island!
If you'd like to keep your exercise routine going while on vacation, you can get an out-of-town Gym pass at Oak Island Recreation Center. Utilize the Rec Center's ample parking, put in at the Kayak ramp and spend hours kayaking our handsome marshes. Sit on the lawn and savor a nighttime off cooking at our Weekly Friday nighttime "Summer Concert In The Park" with a couple of local food truck options at this family centric Live Music event. Beach Day takes place in Oak Island on the Friday prior to July 4th and features all day activities followed by fireworks on the island that evening.
Visit Historic Southport, a seafaring town just five miles from our island, for a bigger nightlife. Southport, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, features a variety of different eateries, bars, live music and shopping. It is one of our favorite places to walk around and check out different food and live music on the weekends. There are complimentary parking options all over town, and you can conveniently walk to dozens of places while appreciating the breeze from the riverfront and admiring historic homes and general store buildings that date back to the early 1800s. Southport's State Fourth of July Festival is a three-day street fair with artists from all over the state, vendors, and food. It is really like being in an Andy Griffith episode with the parade and enormous finale fireworks show over the riverfront in Southport.
We look forward to your visit!

Booking the best vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Southport area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the perfect rental home:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. West End OKI - Ocean View - Ask about a $225.70 linen discount! has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your contract.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. message the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
