Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation rental experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Oak Island rental home:

  • To book the most suitable rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitors guides that include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Make a plan and pick your prefect Southport vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Ocean view, beautiful backyard pool and less than a 2 minute walk to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Is your group looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
