Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- To find the best value, change your family's Southport vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Southport area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guides contain coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the best vacation rental:
- Start by having your family select a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Townhouse getaway at Carolina Beach has 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
