The chronicles of the "Old Lighthouse Cottage"-

..........Oh, the stories this home could tell… It was originally located beside the Oak Island Lighthouse in Caswell Beach for many years, overseeing the comings & goings of the Coast Guard Station and Lighthouse keepers. Just as the famed light was a beacon for incoming ships, this bungalow is also beckoning you with its welcoming spirit.

The surprise to this bungalow is the impressive private bungalow downstairs. Enter to find a full sized washer & dryer to launder all the guests’ vacation attire. The walls are a natural pine giving you the feel of the nature that surrounds you. Lie on the queen-sized bed and gaze up at a most interesting and gorgeous light/fan combination operated with a remote. Choose from 3 colors of white light to wake you up or create a relaxing ambiance in the evening. The bathroom has a shower and plenty of towels.

Also beckoning you on the bottom floor is a wooden swing and chairs for conversation in the fresh salt air. Carrying on the theme of the natural wood is an outdoor shower for washing off the sandy fun of the day. A huge parking area is great for all your guests to visit.

Head upstairs and gather on the screened front porch to sip your morning coffee or favorite evening drink. Giant windows give the open living area tons of light. The décor immediately bespeaks of your proximity to the sandy shore. Unwind on the comfortable seating and choose from a wide variety of games and puzzles. There’re even toys for the younger set. Perhaps you want to catch up on your favorite show on the enormous screened intelligent tv. Seating for 6 at the dining table and 4 at the bar for overseeing the creation of the next meal. The well-supplied kitchen is sizable enough for the prepare and a helper.

The bathroom with tub and shower is positioned between the two bedrooms upstairs. The front bedroom has a king bed, another tv, a bags rack and additional seating. The back bedroom is where all the kids will want to spend the evenings streaming movies, playing games, or swapping stories late into the nighttime. It features a bunk bed with a twin bed on top and a full-sized bed on the bottom & another full bed flanks the opposite wall.

This light and airy Old Lighthouse bungalow pays homage to its roots when it sat beside one of three lighthouses in our area welcoming ships from the Atlantic into the mouth of the Cape Fear River.

Tips and Tricks for getting the best Oak Island rental home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer months are high season in Oak Island. Reserve your Southport vacation in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Southport area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and picking yourrental:

  • Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Wonderful Island Cottage Just Minutes From the Beach! Sleeps 8 - w\/ Private Bungalow has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a certain Southport beach you are enamored with, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many issues.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on great feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
