Shoal Sisters offers the best in Oak Island Beach Cottage Units

Accepts Short Stays.

3 Bedroom / 2 Bathroom / Sleeps 6

Our sweet beach bungalow is tucked among some of the prettiest mature woodlands on the island. Located between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Beach, Shoal Sisters is a ideal choice for a vacation that is not battered by ocean winds and sand, but quietly perched in a family neighborhood. A two-min. drive (or one-mile walk) will have you at the oceanfront in a flash.  If you prefer to walk, we are just afew blocks from the beach walkover and the Oak Island Recreation Center! Our neighborhood is a jogger and dog walker’s dream: the well marked walkway at SE 31st Street provides a town kayak launch for the Davis Canal and a great view of the center of the island, not accessible by car. This is our favorite area to catch a great sunrise/sunset around the marshlands and to check out a lot of waterbirds. There is a secondary walking path at SE 20th so there is potential for a longer loop for the runners in your group!  Lush landscaping and a marvelous backyard make this a private coastal getaway. Roast smores in an outdoor fire, walk your furry friend down the friendly street, or comfortable up inside our open living space. With an upsized primary bedroom suite and two huge, cozy bedrooms sharing their own bath, you will have plenty of sleep time privacy. One story living with only a few steps at the front porch, Shoal Sisters is ideal for travelers who need to avoid stairs.

Things To Do:
Oak Island is known for its golden sand beaches, calming blue waters, friendly community, and close proximity to the cities of Southport, Wilmington, and Myrtle Beach. There are many cute island coffee stores, stores, breweries, and a park that showcases a splash pad for summer fun! With a handsome Golf Club open to summer travelers and over 100 public water access points, there is an abundance of all things adventurous to do on Oak Island!

If you'd like to keep your exercise routine going while on vacation, you can get an out-of-town Gym pass at Oak Island Recreation Center. Utilize the Rec Center's ample parking, put in at the Kayak ramp and spend hours kayaking our gorgeous marshes.  Sit on the lawn and appreciate a nighttime off cooking at our Weekly Friday nighttime "Summer Concert In The Park" with a couple of local food truck options at this family-centric Live Music event. Beach Day takes place in Oak Island on the Friday prior to July 4th and features all day activities followed by fireworks on the island that evening.

Visit Historic Southport, a seafaring town just five miles from our island, for a bigger nightlife. Southport, at the confluence of the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, features a variety of different eateries, bars, live music and shopping. It is one of our favorite places to walk around and check out different food and live music on the weekends. There are complimentary parking options all over town, and you can conveniently walk to dozens of places while appreciating the breeze from the riverfront and admiring historic homes and general store buildings that date back to the early 1800s. Southport's State Fourth of July Festival is a three-day street fair with artists from all over the state, vendors, and food. It is really like being in an Andy Griffith episode with the parade and grandiose finale fireworks show over the riverfront in Southport.
We look forward to your visit!

Our top Oak Island rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • The earlier you can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Booking your Southport vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental:

  • Choose vacation week and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dog Allowed at our Charming Oak Island Home in the woods has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If not, contact the host before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager right away to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
