Our top Rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to reserve a Southport rental home & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the largest rental home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Southport restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectvacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your family decide on vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Pool 2024, Hot Tub, Near Beaches and Historic area! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport rental home search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, email the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is suitable for your family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Southport attraction you are crazy about, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Additional considerations:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
