The Surf Shack at BHI is the best place for your family and friends to experience the magic of Bald Head Island. With 2 bedrooms each with their own bathroom, it is ideal for 2 couples or a family with kids. Located in the relaxing neighborhood of Surfman's Walk, it is only a short bicycle ride or golf cart to East Beach or Shoals Club.
Appreciate your morning coffee on the porch, ride to the market for coffee, and spend your days at the beach.

We have a one year old so have outfitted the home to be well equipped for young families.

Kid features: 2 pack and plays, a huge walk in closet that fits one of the pack and plays for infant/toddlers to sleep in (completely dark with outlets for monitors), Dohm sound machines in both rooms, a high chair, and an inflatable bath tub. We also have seatbelts on the golf cart for additional safety while driving around. Additionally, if you would like help in securing a babysitter for some days or nights during your time on the island, we are happy to provide a few resources to find those. We always appreciate having the option of an adults nighttime out and there are tons of sweet high school + college girls on the island with their family during the summer who appreciate to babysit.

FAMILY PETS: We do allow a max. of one pet, no cats (dogs only) and must be modest or medium size. Please note there will be a pet fee and family pets are not allowed on the furnishings.

SHOALS CLUB ACCESS. Info for temporary membership will be sent after booking.

We also provide a brand new 4 person golf cart. If you would like to rent an additional cart that can be done through Cary Cart Company on the island by visiting their website.

There are bicycles and beach chairs for you to use while you are there. In addition, we have books, puzzles, games, and everything you should need for the duration of your stay to make it the ideal hideaway.

It is expected that the club memberships will sell out for summer dates and holidays, so we do encourage you to make arrangements with the clubs as soon as you book your rental. About the Area

Located near the beach, this cottage is in Cape Fear Station, a neighborhood in Bald Head Island. Smith Island Museum of History and North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport are cultural highlights, and some of the area's attractions include North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher and Bald Head Island Information Center.

Getting the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in Bald Head Island. Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.

  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to stimulate future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback.
