Tips and Tricks for getting the best Wilmington rental home experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Booking your Southport vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Southport area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning and choosing the perfectvacation home:

  • Choose vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. UNCW Midtown Ranch Home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
