Wilmington Sharks Baseball

When the weather heats up, there’s nothing like a day at the ballpark, and Wilmington vacationers can root for the home team, thanks to the Port City’s own minor league club, the Wilmington Sharks. Part of the Coastal Plain League, this collegiate summer baseball league plays close to home in the sprawling and accommodating Legion Stadium, and promises plenty of world-class fun that sporting fans of all ages can enjoy.

The Wilmington Sharks were founded in 1997, and have won the Petit Cup championships in both 1998 and 1999. With a full season of games held at the homegrown Legion Stadium, (also known as “The Shark Tank,”) spring and summer visitors can usually find a game night or afternoon to attend during their stay. The stadium is accommodating, with plenty of sunny and shaded seating and concessions, and the team hosts a number of special themed nights, which can include events just for kids, discounts for military members and other special groups, and other fun ballgames that coincide with contests, prizes, or even fireworks. A great option for a family-friendly outing that’s close to the heart of the downtown area, a trip to see the Wilmington Sharks play will make any summertime visitor a lifelong fan.

Zeke's Island Coastal Reserve

Zeke's Island Coastal Reserve is found just south of the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, and is one of the three original 1985 National Estuarine Research Reserve components dedicated by NOAA and the Division of Coastal Management. Encompassing a wide range of habitats, the lagoon-like reserve is one of the most important feeding regions of the North Carolina shoreline for a wide range of birds, and is a popular destination for nature lovers, mariners, kayakers, and birdwatchers alike.

Cape Fear Museum

The Cape Fear Museum, (shorthand for the Cape Fear Museum of History and Science), has been educating and entertaining visitors for well over 100 years. Founded in 1898, the museum is the oldest operating museum in North Carolina, and welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Distinguished for its modern structure and Market Street location in the middle of Downtown Wilmington, the museum has a wealth of information on the history, wildlife and culture of the 50-square mile Cape Fear region. More than 50 thousand exhibits can be found within its brick and concrete walls, and patrons of all ages will surely find an exhibit or two that is engrossing, educational, and sheds new light on this essential coastal Carolina region.

Downtown city noise is to be expected from time to time as well as airplane noise. We have keypads installed for effortless arrivals.Other things to noteThe windows are not meant to be open. Do to there age and layers of paint, opening the windows can be dangerous. If you would like some fresh air, we have plenty of outdoor space to enjoy. Abiding by this will ensure that the home stays cool if you wish, and the bugs stay out.
