Our top Oak Island vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Book your Southport vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Selecting and booking a perfectvacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Big Wave: Sunny, Oceanfront Home with Awe-Inspiring Views has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
