Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Oak Island. To find the best value, try shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and pick the rightrental:

  • First, have your group decide on vacation dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Blue Fish Shack: Dog-Friendly Waterway Home with Private Boat Dock has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
