Tips and Tricks to get the very best rental experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- To get the most suitable rental home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Southport attractions.
- The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose a group leader, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. BHI Coastal Cottage has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Document any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
