Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

Getting the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, consider changing your family's Southport trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies supply Southport area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking your Southport rental home:

  • Start by having your group commit to dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Continental Motel - studio with kitchenette close to beach has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you book your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a great stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
