Getting the best vacation home experience:

When to go & When to reserve a Wilmington rental home:

  • Reserve your Southport rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • In the Southport area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours and attractions.

How to choose the perfect vacation home in the Southport area:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Cozy House Located in downtown Wilmington city center has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Southport attraction you love, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
