Our top Oak Island rental booking tips:

Finding the best value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Choosing and booking the right Southport rental:

  • Begin by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Charming home near the Intracoastal Waterway & beach with firepit, deck, AC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a specific Southport destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
