Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Property managers sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Southport area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Finding the perfect vacation home:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. New-Oceanfront-Elevated Pool-Elevator-2 Hot Tubs-14BR\/14BA +2 Half has 15 bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is optimal for your vacation.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To make certain no damages are linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
