When to visit & When to book:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in Oak Island. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Southport trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses.
