Discover the beauty of Wrightsville Beach from this welcoming 3-bedroom bungalow. Step inside and feel instantly at home in this phenomenal property. With 2 queen beds and 1 full bed, it's ideal for a superb hideaway with friends or family. Located in the sought after south end of Wrightsville Beach, the bungalow, constructed in 1947, is a good representation of old Wrightsville of yesteryear. The home sits amongst impressive bespoke homes yet has a very laid back vibe on the south end just across the street from the beach. It is steps away from public beach access ‘41’ and a fast walk to the lazy beaches of Banks Channel. This unit has been completely refreshed and is the ideal base camp for a memorable beach vacation.

Welcome to The Prickly Pear Cottage Upper Unit, named after the native cactus that inhabits the elegant barrier islands of this part of North Carolina and is conveniently visible at the beaches across the street. It is the upper level unit of a duplex bungalow, and it is steps away from public beach access '40' & '41'. In the other direction and simple walk lies the Oceanic Restaurant & Bar, Sundays Cafe/Bakery Shop, and South End Surf Shop. On many mornings and evenings, you can hear the sound of the ocean waves as you appreciate the beach breeze with a cup of coffee or a drink on the porch rockers. This unit, with the original yellow pine wood floors throughout, has been completely remodeled with a brand new kitchen and updated bathroom. The home was carefully restored in a manner to reflect the historic nature of this beach bungalow as one of the first of its kind on the south end of Wrightsville Beach Island. After a long day at the beach or on the water, there is an outdoor shower to rinse off, a calming porch to have a drink and take in the sea breeze, and a comfortable living room area and bedrooms to relax. Prices are better than most hotels on the island plus you get the luxury of having separate bedrooms and your own roomy, well appointed kitchen, living room, and outdoor wraparound porch! No need to worry about parking as there are your own parking spots in the driveway. Park your car and you may not need to use it again for the rest of your trip.

The lower unit, which has also been listed on Vacation Rental By Owner for the 3 previous years, currently hosts two longer term tenants. Reviews for that unit can be found on 'Prickly Pear across street from Beach'

Our top Rental booking tips:

When to visit Wrightsville Beach & When to reserve a Southport rental home:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Southport area. Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the best vacation rental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Prickly Pear Cottage, Upper Unit - 3 bedroom charmer on south Wrightsville Beach has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your group.
  • If there's a particular Southport beach you love, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a excellent time? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
