Vacation rental tips and tricks:

When to reserve a Southport rental & When to go:

  • Summer months are high season in the Southport area. To get the best value, shift your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Southport area travel guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the perfect vacation rental in the Southport area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Private Pool, Hot Tub, Ocean View, 2nd Row, Single Family has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport rental home search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Southport beach you crave, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • During check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
