Our top Vacation rental tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer time is high season in Oak Island. Book your Southport rental property in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitor guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your search:
- To start, have your family choose date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Cottage Breeze: Recently renovated home within walking distance to the beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, record any problem areas during check in. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
