Strategies for getting the best Oak Island rental experience:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Southport area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the best rental home in the Southport area:

  • Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Southern Seabreeze: Remodeled Home with Private Seasonal Pool and Great Ocean Vi has 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. text the host right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
