Strategies to get the optimal Southport vacation property experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Southport area. To book the best rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Southport restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Here Comes The Sun #3 & #4
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, call the property management company before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is right for your family.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a specific Southport beach you are enamored with, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
