Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:

Find your perfect vacation home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Southport attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Many property management companies supply Southport area visitor guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, selecting, and booking your prefect Southport vacation home:

  • To start, have your family commit to dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Waterfront Duplex with Boat Slip has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a certain Southport destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your . Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
