Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Southport area. Book your rental property in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area visitors guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the perfect Southport rental:

  • Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. 3BR\/2BA Historic Home in the Heart of Downtown Wilmington has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
