Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental:

  • Select vacation dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. 5 Buoys: Ocean View House Near Ocean Crest Pier has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
