Our top Oak Island vacation rental booking tips:

How to get the best rental value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Southport area. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to select the perfect vacation home in the Southport area:

  • Start by having your family commit to the best dates and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Charming 3-bedroom house with fenced yard and beach walkover access same street. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
