Our top Southport vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Get the best value:

  • Summer time is high season in the Southport area. To find the best rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Southport area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Look for your local Southport visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Be our guest at our beautiful new home in friendly beach town of Oak Island, NC has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Visiting for a single event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Know before you go:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
