Neighborhood description

Pleasure Island is a coastal barrier island in Southeastern North Carolina, USA just south of the City of Wilmington. Pleasure Island is located within Federal Point Township, in New Hanover County. The coastal resort towns of Carolina Beach and Kure Beach, as well as the annexed communities of Wilmington Beach and Hanby Beach are located on the island.

The building itself is roughly one block from the nearest beach access. The property is a moderate walk or short drive from downtown Carolina Beach with its stores, activities and dining and is equidistant to the smaller, but just as appealing Downtown Kure Beach with its fishing pier and aquarium. There are fireworks during the summer every Thursday nighttime, movies at the lake each Sunday nighttime, and local fairs around the lake each Saturday morning (refer to carolinabeachdotorg for additional info!). Carolina Beach is a mix of friendly locals, snowbirds, and visitors all looking to escape the inland and enjoy the sand, surf, and sun.

Carolina Beach and the surrounding neighborhoods offer an array of sights and activities to enjoy while here. Some of these examples are a subtle beach hike through Carolina Beach State Park, Fishing on the Kure Beach Pier, kayaking to one of the many islands surrounding the Intracoastal Waterway, watching canons blast during a historical reenactment at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, or petting some Sting Rays at the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher. This doesn’t even include the aweing scenery of Airlie Gardens, and our very own battleship (USS NC) in Wilmington! Perhaps more calming and less “adventure” is your speed? Our own local Brewery (Good Hops) along with a round of Frisbee golf may be what the doctor ordered!

Getting around

There isn’t anywhere or anything on our Island that isn’t accessible with foot power. Downtown Carolina Beach has multiple vendors such as Tony Silvagni’s Surf School @ 308 S Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC 28428 (bicycles, paddleboards, surfboards, kayaks, chairs, and umbrellas) for rent as an alternative to walking or driving. Taxi’s (local golf cart taxi’s) and Uber’s are also generally available for an assist when needed as well throughout the island! You can catch a Ferry to Southport in Kure Beach @ 2422 Fort Fisher Blvd S Kure Beach which leads to another ferry to Bald Head Island where NO CARS are allowed at all!

After all, you won’t catch many locals going OTB! (Over The Bridge). Everything you need is right here!

GOLF CARTS

•To the county, golf carts are considered automobiles. Generally speaking, golf carts are NOT allowed on premises of ANY condo, condotel, or apartment. The same goes for trailers, motorbikes, etc. For SFR’s or properties supporting multiple cars, carts should be OK. However, be conscious that few homes have external outlets WITHOUT GFCI’S (which are code by today’s standards). Charging a cart on a GFCI will immediately trip the breaker, resulting in the inability to charge a cart amongst other repercussions. Gas carts will generally be the ideal rental option if in a home whose parking supports such.

•ALL suites are non-smoking (including vaping) and a heavy cleaning/repair charge can result if not adhered to. This includes porches, decks, balconies, and walkways.

Tips to get the optimal rental home experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To find the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Finding the perfect vacation home in the Southport area:

  • Start by having your group decide on vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. \"Family Tides\" Waves and Sun for EVERYONE! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a certain Southport destination you crave, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
