Historic appeal meets modern updates in this downtown Wilmington beauty, just down the street from the Historic District and Riverwalk, lined with galleries, eateries, and stores. Wrightsville Beach awaits around eight miles east if you’re looking for something low-key. At home, start the day with coffee and end it with a drink at the patio table set into your private back yard. Inside, you’ll find a completely updated space still bursting with original details, like wood floors, crown molding, and exposed brick in the kitchen. The chef will adore the bright space, with stainless steel appliances, sleek countertops, and a butcher block island. At mealtime, the kitchen opens directly to the dining room, or grab a bite in the inviting sunroom, with three walls of windows.

After a day at a downtown museum, shopping, or at the beach, come home to relax in the central AC. Stream the latest release or catch up on any lingering remote work at the desk before calling it a nighttime in one of four well-appointed bedrooms. Another day of discovery - or just calming on the sand - awaits tomorrow.

Tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your vacation rental budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. To find the best value, change your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by having your group select date ranges and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Historic, updated home near downtown with private yard, WiFi, & AC has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

During your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • At departure, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the property a final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
