Tips and Tricks to get the best rental home experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Southport area. To find the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many rental management companies supply Southport area visitors guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Charming cottage, rocking chair front porch has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
  • Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
