Oak Island rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer is high season in the Southport area. To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Southport area travel guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Ocean Front WiFi, Pet Friendly, HDTV, Balcony Overlooking Ocean! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Southport vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the owner about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
