Tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Wilmington. Booking in the Spring or Fall is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Southport visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • To start, have your group decide on vacation dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Riverwalk Retreat - Downtown water views, parking has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your vacation.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of issues.
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect your property!
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
