Tips to get the best Bald Head Island vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in Bald Head Island. Book your Southport rental in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have coupons for local shops and restaurants.

Selecting and booking the perfect Southport rental:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Sandy Bottoms - Beautiful Ibis Roost home! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking pages. If not, email the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is best for your group.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let burglars ruin your trip.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
