Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Southport vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Southport restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Southport area travel guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the rightrental home:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Welcome to The Marsh Harbour Inn-Ocean Vista Suite has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available online. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your group.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
