Tips for getting the best Southport vacation rental experience:

Find your perfect rental:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Southport area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Southport restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Southport visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Start by having your group decide on dates and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. How Sweet The Sound - Great Dune Home in Quiet Neighborhood. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
