How to get the best Oak Island vacation rental experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are high season in Oak Island. Reserve your Southport rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Property managers often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Southport area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing and booking a perfect Southport vacation home:

  • To start, have your group decide on dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Mead Us At The Pier: Oceanfront beach cottage just down the road from the Oak Is has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a particular Southport attraction you crave, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Upon check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
