The Oak Island Town Council has approved paid parking on the island, effective from April 1 through September 30. The hours are from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The cost is $5 per hour, $20 per day, and $80 per week. Limited (1,000) annual passes are available for purchase for $175. Violations will be issued if the new rules are not followed.   • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Southport area. Booking your Southport vacation home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation.   • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
