Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best value, shift your family's Southport vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Southport vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Southport area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Southport visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to choose and book your prefect Southport vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. 7 Bedroom Home with Beautiful Ocean View, Private Pool and Elevator has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what is optimal for your family.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Southport attraction you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
